A few years ago, when I first started university, I was looking for a way to earn some extra money, as my maintenance loan just wasn’t enough. I didn’t want to work as a waiter or as a bartender. I wanted something more glamourous – something like being a male escort.
I was in my twenties and looked it, but I was also fit and in shape and not too bad looking, if I do say so myself. So, I went to a professional photographer who took a couple of headshots of me, and then I joined the best male escort agency in London that I could find.
I wasn’t sure if I would get any work to start with, being so young. But I soon found out that clients for male escorts run the gamut of ages from young women wanting to take a handsome guy to a party to businesswomen who need a man on their arm while they attend a business function, to elderly ladies who want to go to the theatre and hate going alone.
I won’t talk about any of my clients specifically – that’s not allowed. We always respect our client’s privacy!
But I can say that I’ve enjoyed each of the clients that I’ve met, from the ones who show me off and tell everyone that I am her male escort for the evening to those who prefer that I call myself “just a friend.”
And though I’ve taken my degree now, I have to admit that I am not too anxious to look for a position in my field, because I am having too much fun as a male escort in London.
I get to go to the theatre, and concerts, and parties. I eat at the best restaurants. I meet people from all walks of life and in all business sectors. And I’ve learned a lot about human nature.
Once I got more experience, I would sometimes ask my clients why they chose a male escort agency. Of my younger clients, those just going to university themselves, they did it more as a dare and for the experience. But then it turned out that a lot of young women just didn’t have time to date. And I could understand that!
So when they did want to go out, they hired a male escort and didn’t have to worry about impressing him or going home after a “date” and waiting for a call that never came. They were able to concentrate on their studies and not worry about their social life until later.
Then there were the businesswomen. There are certain fields where there is lots of travel to be done – they have to come up to London for a week for their business but don’t know anyone here, and they don’t want to do things alone.
I suppose that’s what it boils down to in the end – people just don’t want to be alone. They want to have dinner with a companion, go to a show with a companion, and just generally have a good time with someone who will treat them well. And that’s what male escorts do.
Being a male escort hasn’t harmed my own social life, either. I have a girl-friend, and she knows what I do, and she’s fine with that. I’m usually home late but in the mornings I tell her about what we did the night before – the play or the party – and sometimes if I met any interesting people.
She does sometimes tell me that I spent 3 years at university to earn my degree and I should do something with it, and sometimes I admit I do think I should be doing what I’d trained for at university. But really my education helps me as a male escort, too. It’s not like it’s going to waste.
I have a few male friends who have asked me about becoming a male escort in London, and I tell them that it is a very rewarding career – but there’s a lot of work involved, too. After all, it’s our job to make sure our clients have a good time, and that means looking good and impressing her friends or work colleagues.
But if you’re prepared to do the work, you’ll enjoy it and be a success.
